One Way Vehicle Rental
Every journey doesn’t always conclude at its origin. Occasionally, your path might take you from point A to B and you wouldn’t want to traverse back to the start simply to return the hired car. This is when SDVH’s one-way car hire comes into play. Merely hire a car in one area of the UK and leave it at your end destination.
This option is designed to make your travel convenient and efficient by cutting out the need for prolonged rental durations. Instead of driving back to the original rental point, reduce expenses by returning the car to a local depot or allowing our team to pick it up at your last stop. Please note, our one-way car hire is only provided on the UK mainland and includes an additional fee. Detail your final destination and pickup date when placing your booking.
Insurance Is Included
Despite your topmost care and driving expertise, accidents might happen, resulting in damage to the car and to the passengers inside. That’s why, every car rented from SDVH is equipped with comprehensive insurance, which covers small damages to the car and all people travelling in it. We incorporate this insurance coverage in the car rental cost, making sure there are no hidden fees.
We also feature a Collision Damage Waiver for extra protection, which reduces your financial liability for any serious damage to the car. As you place a booking, our representatives will tell you about the total cost of the car hire, including all insurance options.
Company Own Insurance - 10%
We acknowledge that extra rental car insurance isn’t necessary for everyone. When your work policy previously covers you, there is no need for us to provide extra protection and it is unfair to charge all customers the same.
Thus, if you own insurance, we grant a 10% discount on each car rental, rendering SDVH’s rentals cheaper yet still giving unlimited mileage. Please alert our team about your present insurance when reserving a car hire to claim this discount.

What To Do In Coulsdon
Coulsdon lies at the southern fringe of Greater London, where suburban streets give way to the open landscapes of Surrey. Easily accessed via the A23 and close to the M25, it’s a convenient stop for those exploring by car. The area which houses around 25,000 people enjoys a generally mild climate, though it’s wise to pack layers—especially outside the summer months. Spring through early autumn offers the best weather for walking trails and outdoor stops. Known for its village feel, generous green spaces and historic links to the Surrey Iron Railway and Cane Hill Hospital, Coulsdon quietly rewards those who linger.
Attractions In Coulsdon
Coulsdon is the kind of place best explored behind the wheel. With so many spots tucked just out of view, having a car makes it easy to take detours, pause at roadside landmarks and hop between leafy commons and quiet trails.
Coulsdon Memorial Ground
We started near the heart of town at Coulsdon Memorial Ground on Marlpit Lane—a familiar hub for locals and visitors alike. With open lawns, a café, a children’s play area and a war memorial, it’s easy to lose an hour or two here. In winter, the grass slope becomes a favourite for sledging. It’s open 24/7 and while the car park can fill quickly, there’s usually turnover throughout the day.
Coulsdon War Memorial
Just a short drive across town lies another tribute to Coulsdon’s past—the smaller but equally cherished Coulsdon War Memorial. It’s surrounded by a community park that includes exercise equipment, a playground and a seasonal putting green. We saw locals from Sutton stopping in for a coffee, their children darting between the swings.
Bradmore Green
Looping west along Tollers Lane, we found ourselves at Bradmore Green—a modest, tree-lined park that forms part of everyday Coulsdon life. There’s nothing flashy here, just space to stretch your legs, watch the world go by and perhaps enjoy a takeaway on a bench. It’s the kind of spot you’re grateful to stumble upon, even if you didn’t set out to find it.
Coulsdon Coppice, London Wildlife Trust
From Bradmore Green, it’s a short drive to Birchfield Close, where Coulsdon Coppice quietly awaits. This small but charming woodland feels almost like a secret—a circular trail through wildflowers, buzzing with insects in warmer months. We visited in May and found the bluebells in full bloom, with barely another soul around. Muddy underfoot in parts but worth the effort.
Dollypers Hill Nature Reserve
Heading south towards Caterham Drive, we took the winding route up to Dollypers Hill. Tucked at the end of a residential road, it opens into a sloping nature reserve thick with wildlife. The paths are gentle, the views surprisingly wide and parking is fairly easy if you’re early. It’s the sort of green escape that encourages you to slow down and tune in.
Cane Hill Superintendent’s Memorial
From here, we detoured towards Jenner Close, where the Cane Hill Superintendent’s Memorial still quietly marks the edge of what was once Coulsdon’s most prominent landmark. Most of the former psychiatric hospital is gone, replaced by new housing but this simple structure remains. It felt still, almost meditative—a moment of pause amidst a modern estate.
Coulsdon Workhouse
A little further south near the edge of Caterham, the old Coulsdon Workhouse still stands on Fox Lane. It’s been converted into cottages now but the shape of it—the presence—speaks to its former purpose. There’s no fanfare, no signage, just an unexpected brush with history along a quiet road.
The Norman Fisher Observatory
We’d timed our visit to coincide with a Friday night opening at the Norman Fisher Observatory, located just off Waterhouse Lane. Run by the Croydon Astronomical Society, this place offers an entirely different perspective—literally. Through their telescopes, we watched Jupiter rise and spotted star clusters invisible to the naked eye. It’s an easy detour for anyone driving in from Kingswood, especially on a clear night.
Surrey Iron Railway Embankment
The following morning, we stopped at Lion Green Road to see what remains of the historic Surrey Iron Railway—one of the world’s first public railways. There’s not much more than an embankment and a plaque but imagining the horse-drawn wagons clattering through over 200 years ago brought its own quiet thrill. It’s often recommended by folks based in Banstead who enjoy tracing old transport routes.
Millennium Cairn
Next, we turned down Ditches Lane for a view of the Downs and the Millennium Cairn. Simple in design, the cairn marks the passing of time rather than a specific event—a neat contrast to the weightier memorials elsewhere in town. While nearby in Tadworth, we decided to take the scenic route over and found it well worth the stop.
Coal Tax Post, Coulsdon Road
To finish, we followed Coulsdon Road towards Carshalton, where one of London’s many Coal Tax Posts still stands. These 19th-century boundary markers once governed goods entering the city and now sit largely forgotten beside hedgerows and pavements. Blink and you’ll miss it—but it’s part of what makes driving through Coulsdon so full of small discoveries.
Finish The Day Right
Coulsdon’s charm lies in how easily it fits around your pace. Drivers can move from one green space to the next without stress and there’s a generous mix of casual cafés, proper pubs and hidden lunch spots along the way. You’ll find peaceful places to stay nearby too—especially heading toward Warlingham or Wallington. Whether you’re on a longer journey through Surrey or just popping in for a day, Coulsdon offers just enough to keep your curiosity ticking—one drive at a time.
