The paths loop gently through glades and hills, with views reaching back toward the city. A great place to drive to early and enjoy before it gets busy.

East Surrey Museum

This small museum on Stafford Road is packed with local finds—fossils, war memorabilia and Victorian oddities all tucked into neat displays. We found it surprisingly engaging, especially for a quick afternoon visit. Open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday (10:00 am – 5:00 pm or until 4:00 pm on Saturdays).

Queen’s Park

Just off Queen’s Park Road, this well-kept green space is ideal for families. It has open lawns, a play area and winding paths shaded by old trees. You’ll often hear children playing or catch the smell of nearby barbecues in summer. There’s easy parking nearby, making it a convenient stop if you’re touring the area.

Marden Park

Approaching from Godstone, this area of woodland and meadow feels far more remote than it is. Run by the Woodland Trust, it offers winding footpaths, birdsong and peaceful views. A great spot for a longer walk—and easier to reach if you’ve got the keys to your own car.

Whitehill Tower

Tucked away on Stanstead Road, this unusual old tower has a slightly eerie charm. Overgrown and weathered, it once played a role in fire signalling systems. We nearly missed it the first time—it’s easy to walk past if you’re not looking closely. With a car, it’s an easy detour on the way through the hilltop roads.

Soper Hall Community Centre

Located on Harestone Valley Road, Soper Hall is a lively venue that hosts craft fairs, classes and music nights. During a visit to Banstead, we stopped in for a weekend event—friendly locals, good food and a warm atmosphere. Open from 8:00 am until midnight daily.

Madeira Walk, Woldingham

This short trail offers gentle walking through fields and tree-lined paths. It’s quiet, scenic and just enough to clear your head. Not far from Caterham and best reached with a car as there’s limited public transport nearby.

Manor Park

Off Burntwood Lane, this natural green space feels tucked away and peaceful. You’ll find patches of woodland, grassy clearings and the occasional bench. It’s open at all times and tends to be quieter than the main parks—ideal if you’re looking to pull over somewhere simple and green.

The Cedar Tree – Caterham On The Hill

This tall, striking tree near the High Street is something of a local landmark. While driving in from Kingswood, we stopped for a closer look—the wide canopy and weathered trunk give it real presence, especially against an evening sky.

RAF Kenley Bofors Tower

Down a wooded path near Burntwood Lane, this solid brick structure still stands guard over the old RAF Kenley airfield. Built to defend against wartime air raids, the tower is now a quiet monument to Caterham’s role in history. Best visited by car—signage is minimal but GPS gets you close.

Caterham & District Local History Centre

Sharing a building with the East Surrey Museum, this small archive is full of old photos, maps and documents. An ideal detour for drivers coming from Reigate, especially if you’re interested in the area’s background and stories.

Graham’s Walk

Near Buxton Lane, this lesser-known path offers a short, shaded walk through overhanging trees. In spring, wildflowers appear along the edge. It’s simple, quiet and easy to overlook—but worth seeking out with a bit of extra time and a flexible itinerary.
