Unlimited Rental Mileage
For most car rental scenarios, your travel distance is limited by a mileage cap, which usually limit your plans. Over here at SDVH, we like to give our customers the flexibility they’re entitled to. Consequently, we give unlimited mileage on all our cars, bar those dedicated for courier services.
This policy allows you to drive for an unlimited distance within West Byfleet without worry about going over any limit. It’s an excellent option for extended trips or when you are uncertain of the total distance you’ll be driving. Reach out to one of our customer service reps when you’re booking to ensure the car you’ve picked comes with our unlimited mileage policy.

European Cover Option
On certain occasions, traveling through Europe by car is more charming than taking a plane or a rail. With us, you can hire a car and travel through various European countries including France, Spain, Germany, Ireland, Belgium, Portugal and other EU nations with ease. Our unlimited mileage applies to cars rented for lengthy trips within the EU.
When making a reservation, let our agent be aware of your plans to travel beyond the UK as it comes with an added cost. If your travel plans include venturing outside the EU, please also tell our reservation team ahead of time.
One Way Vehicle Rental
Each journey doesn’t always conclude at its origin. From time to time, your route might take you from point A to B and you might not want to traverse back to the start simply to return the hired car. That’s where SDVH’s one-way car hire comes into play. Merely hire a car in one area of the UK and leave it at your final destination.
This option is designed to make your travel convenient and efficient by cutting out the need for longer rental terms. Instead of driving back to the starting rental point, cut costs by returning the car to a close-by depot or allowing our team to retrieve it at your last stop. Please note, our one-way car hire is solely offered on the UK mainland and includes an extra fee. Detail your end destination and pickup date when making your booking.
Insurance Is Included
Despite how careful a person could be, accidents can happen, causing damage to the car or injuries to the people inside. Preparing oneself for such circumstances is essential. With SDVH, every car booked comes with comprehensive insurance which takes care of both small damages to the car and all passengers inside.
This insurance coverage is included in the car hire charge, eliminating unexpected fees. For additional protection, we offer a Collision Damage Waiver, which lessens your financial responsibility for major damage to the car. During the reservation procedure, our team will inform you about the entire cost of the car hire, inclusive of insurance plans.
Company Own Insurance - 10%
We realise that not all clients require additional car rental insurance. If you’re covered by a company policy, we don’t find it necessary for additional protection and we feel it’s not fair to charge you the same as other customers. Thus, if you previously have insurance, we extend a 10% discount on every car rental.
This offer allows you to enjoy less expensive car rentals from SDVH whilst enjoying the benefit of unlimited mileage. Kindly inform our team about your company insurance when reserving a car to avail of this discount.

What To Do In West Byfleet
You don’t quite stumble into West Byfleet by accident. Tucked between the open farmland near Ripley and the suburban sprawl of Woking, it’s the kind of place people return to, not just pass through. The River Wey weaves nearby and the town’s railway station quietly carries commuters and day-trippers in and out—all the while, West Byfleet holds its own sense of pace. Its population count is on the lower side – around 5,500.
The A245 takes you straight through the area, with other roads nudging off towards Wisley and Byfleet. There’s a patchwork of quiet estates, village greens and waterways here and if you’re driving, the freedom to jump between tucked-away spots really helps. Car hire is handy too—especially for heading further afield to places like Addlestone or Weybridge.
Mild, damp winters make way for floral bursts come March. It’s the kind of town where spring unfurls slowly across canal banks and garden borders. Summer is best for garden visits and shady woodland walks, though autumn’s golden hush across Horsell Common is hard to beat. West Byfleet doesn’t chase attention—but if you give it a day or two, it tends to open up.
Attractions In West Byfleet
There’s a lived-in quality to the attractions around West Byfleet. Some sit quietly in plain sight, others need a bit of hunting. What ties them together is their sense of place—they belong here, stitched into everyday life.
Little Street West Byfleet
We found Little Street tucked between a row of shops along Station Approach—unassuming from the outside but a miniature world inside. It’s a purpose-built play town for children, with zones like a builder’s yard, farm shop, theatre and even a maternity ward. The centrepiece is a child-sized train. Our toddler started off hesitant but within minutes was zipping from room to room. Sessions run daily, 9:15am to 5:10pm and feel well-organised without being rigid.
West Byfleet Recreation Ground
Set just off Camphill Road, this is more than just a park. There’s a fresh play area that’s clearly been thought through—designed for climbing, racing, spinning, not just swinging. We arrived mid-morning and stayed longer than planned. A few benches sit under mature trees, making it easy for adults to pause while kids dart between frames. Open all hours and usually full of locals.
Byfleet Recreation Ground
If you’re after wider open space, head along Rectory Close into Byfleet. This park’s good for a longer stroll—especially now a new footpath links it to Brooklands Museum. Two play areas serve younger and older children and there’s even a skatepark tucked towards one end. It’s where we ended up for a late afternoon wander, sharing space with dog walkers and a few families settling in for a picnic. Toilets are near the entrance, which helps.
The Sandpit
This one took a little finding. The Sandpit is a part of Horsell Common but it feels separate—tucked behind trees and shaped by history. H.G. Wells fans will know it from War of the Worlds but even if that reference passes you by, it’s worth visiting for the landscape alone. Sandy underfoot, ringed by tall pines, it’s oddly quiet even on busy days. You’ll find walkers, dreamers and the occasional Martian enthusiast.
Horsell Common
There’s a freedom to Horsell Common—not manicured but full of trails and space to make your own. We ended up building dens with the kids using fallen branches and later passed a pair of joggers and a woman painting wildflowers onto canvas. It’s a blend of open scrub, pine woodland and scattered clearings. Accessible all day, every day.
Woodham Lock Flight
While driving in from Chertsey, we decided to stop at Woodham Lock Flight for a breather. Boats edged through the gates while we watched from the towpath—the pace here was gentle, mechanical, oddly calming. No rush, no noise, just movement and water.
Byfleet War Memorial
Right along the High Road in Byfleet, this modest stone cross is easy to miss but we’re glad we didn’t. It marks local lives lost in the wars and the small green space around it invites stillness. At school pick-up time, we noticed a boy point to a name on the plaque—asking a question his mum quietly answered.
John Donne’s House
You can’t go inside but that doesn’t lessen the charm. This 17th-century building sits near the canal in Pyrford, flanked by hedgerows and backed by silence. We found a bench on the opposite bank and watched the shadows shift across the water. Knowing Donne lived here—with all his sharp wit and melancholy—added a certain weight to the place.
New Haw Lock
Approaching from West End, this was an easy first stop on a sunny day. New Haw Lock had paddleboarders easing past and narrowboats working through the lock. The nearby towpath made for a comfortable walk and we lingered with sandwiches near the bridge.
RHS Garden Wisley
It’s a big draw and with good reason. RHS Garden Wisley—off Wisley Lane—is a place we return to in different seasons. Spring brings the orchard into bloom, summer fills the glasshouse with colour. But even on a grey weekday morning, it’s got its own peace. Multiple cafés offer lunch options and the garden shop is a destination in its own right. Opens at 9:00am or 10:00am depending on the day.
Dunsborough Park
During a visit to Cobham, we found time to detour to Dunsborough Park. This private garden in Ripley doesn’t open often but we hit it during Dahlia Days. Flower beds overflowed, sculptures were scattered between blooms and the atmosphere was as relaxed as it was colourful.
A Taste Of Time In West Byfleet
West Byfleet keeps things simple and that’s part of the appeal. For a proper cup of coffee and something sweet, Taylor’s Coffee House on Station Approach is a favourite—its homely setup and locally roasted beans make it a great spot to slow down. Ciccio’s Café, tucked nearby, also draws in a steady stream of regulars with hearty breakfasts and friendly service. An ideal detour for drivers coming from Hersham, New Haweli serves up reliable Indian dishes just a short walk from the centre, while Rajput and Red Rose in neighbouring Byfleet offer solid takeaway and dine-in options.
Accommodation isn’t clustered in town but just ten minutes away you’ll find Gorse Hill—a peaceful hotel set in countryside just outside Woking. It’s a convenient base if you’re exploring by car, with plenty of green space and easy road links back into West Byfleet.
