European Cover Option
Sometimes, touring Europe by car is more enticing than catching a flight or a train. With us, you can hire a car and travel through multiple European countries such as France, Spain, Germany, Ireland, Belgium, Portugal and other EU nations in style. Our unlimited mileage covers cars hired for extended trips within the EU.
When making a reservation, let our agent know your plans to journey beyond the UK as it requires an added cost. If your travel plans include travelling beyond the EU, please also inform our reservation team ahead of time.
One Way Vehicle Rental
Every journey doesn’t always end at its starting point. Occasionally, you could need to travel from point A to B without having the intention to return solely to drop off the rented car. SDVH’s one-way car hire service meets this need. Hire a car in one location inside the UK and return it at your termination point.
This service makes travel straightforward and eliminates extra rental periods. Rather than driving back to the first rental depot, reduce expenses by returning it to a nearby depot or let our team retrieve it from your final destination. This one-way car hire option remains only available on the UK mainland and carries an supplementary charge. Make sure to specify your destination and pickup date as you’re booking.
Insurance Is Included
Unforeseen events can occur at any moment, even when we’re being highly vigilant. These accidents might bring about damage to the rental car and/or harm to riders, making preparation important. With SDVH, every car booking provides complete insurance covering minor damages and all passengers.
The basic insurance is built in the hire charge, so no surprise fees. For enhanced protection, we have available a Collision Damage Waiver, which limits your excess liability for significant car damage. During your reservation, our agents will notify you of the full hire price, including all insurance choices.
Company Own Insurance - 10%
We know that not every customer requires our rental car insurance coverage. If your corporate policy currently insures you, there’s no need for us to offer extra protection and we think it’s unfair to charge all customers the equal rate. Therefore, if you’re already insured, we offer a 10% discount on every car hires.
This deal means you can enjoy reasonably priced car rentals from SDVH, along with our various advantages. In order to claim this company discount, please notify our representatives when securing your car.
Wide Range Available
Our extensive vehicle fleet includes people carriers and minibuses for larger groups, versatile trucks for a range of tasks, and both cargo and passenger vans available in Leatherhead. What To Do In Leatherhead
You’ll know you’re in Surrey when the scenery opens out into gently rolling hills, woodland paths and villages wrapped in quiet charm—and right in the midst of it all sits Leatherhead. This market town, with 32,000 residents, is tucked just south of the M25 and easily reached by car, offering a good base for countryside rambles or slow-paced weekends. The climate here is typically mild, with light rain throughout the year, so it’s wise to pack layers and a waterproof. Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable weather for outdoor wandering, though summer brings longer daylight hours that make every corner of the town feel alive.
Leatherhead has long been shaped by both nature and history. From ancient trails once walked by Saxons to Edwardian estates that hosted royalty, there’s a calm rhythm to the place. Events like the Leatherhead Drama Festival and seasonal markets draw in locals and visitors alike. It’s often recommended by folks based in Epsom for a relaxed weekend trip that blends countryside charm with small-town character.
Attractions In Leatherhead
Leatherhead doesn’t shout for attention—it gently reveals itself. You’ll find a mix of welcoming green spaces, interactive attractions for kids and quiet historical corners where time seems to pause.
Bocketts Farm Park
Just off Young Street, Bocketts Farm is a lively, family-run spot with hands-on activities and plenty of space to roam. We were taken by the mix of indoor play, tractor rides and farm animals—it’s as much fun for grown-ups as it is for children. With over 2,000 reviews backing it, this is clearly a favourite for day trips. It’s open daily from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. We’ve noticed it’s especially popular with families from Ashtead, who make the most of its blend of fun, animals and open space.
Norbury Park
Covering a generous stretch of countryside between Leatherhead and the River Mole, Norbury Park blends peaceful woods with open fields and gentle trails. We wandered through late one afternoon and found ourselves pausing at unexpected viewpoints and tree-canopied paths. It’s open 24 hours and makes for a good halfway stop for anyone heading up from Dorking for a bit of nature.
Polesden Lacey
On the edge of nearby Great Bookham, this grand National Trust property is a real treat. The house itself is full of Edwardian elegance but we were most impressed by the landscaped gardens and distant views across the Surrey Hills. While nearby in Bookham, we decided to take a short drive over and ended up staying for the better part of the day. Open daily from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Polesden Lacey is especially striking in spring.
Leatherhead Museum
Tucked into Church Street, the Leatherhead Museum is small but full of personality. Run by the local history society, it covers everything from Roman remains to more recent town stories. We were warmly welcomed by the volunteers and ended up staying longer than expected. The museum is open Thursday and Friday from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm and Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. It’s the kind of quiet spot that draws curious minds and many locals from Banstead tip it as a good way to round out an afternoon.
Nower Wood Educational Nature Reserve
Hidden among oak woodland on Mill Way, Nower Wood is an educational space run by the Surrey Wildlife Trust. Visits are by appointment but it’s well worth planning ahead. We learned more here about native plants and insects than we had in years. The reserve opens weekdays from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm. On our way over from Kingswood, we decided to stop in for a short forest walk and were pleasantly surprised.
River Mole Local Nature Reserve
Running through the southern edge of town, the River Mole offers gentle walks beside the water and occasional sightings of heron or kingfishers. We followed the path near Thorncroft Drive and found it quiet and buggy-friendly, with shaded areas that made it a welcome escape on a warm day. Tucked within easy reach of Cobham, this nature reserve draws plenty of day-trippers who want a simple, scenic break.
Leatherhead Park
This mid-sized green space near Station Approach is often overlooked but we found it perfect for a relaxed stroll or a quiet hour on a bench. There’s a play area for children and open lawns for impromptu picnics. It’s open 24 hours. We saw a few walkers passing through who’d made the easy trip over from Tadworth, making use of the park’s open spaces and benches.
Barnes Wallis Grave
If you’re interested in British wartime history, a short trip to the churchyard in Effingham will lead you to the resting place of Barnes Wallis—inventor of the ‘bouncing bomb.’ We stopped by just before lunch and found the site well-kept and quietly moving. The detour is especially worthwhile for history fans passing through the southern edge of town.
London Viewpoint
A hidden gem not far from Fetcham, this scenic lookout gave us one of the best skyline views we’d seen in the area. You’ll want clear weather for it and we recommend bringing a flask or snack to enjoy while sitting on the bench. It’s the kind of spot locals treasure and rarely tell tourists about—so we were glad we stumbled upon it.
Mansion Gardens
A slightly secret garden just off Minchin Close, we came across this by chance and were glad we did. Set on a small hill near the River Mole, the space feels like it’s been folded into the town rather than designed apart from it. Quiet, green and just a bit wild—it’s everything you want in a hidden corner of a historic market town.
Making The Most Of Your Time In Leatherhead
Leatherhead moves at its own pace—steady, welcoming and full of small discoveries. You’ll find a good range of local cafés and restaurants, whether you’re after a quick sandwich or a slow Sunday roast. Independent shops line parts of the high street, while accommodation options range from traditional inns to country-style hotels on the town’s edge.
