European Cover Option
There are instances when driving across Europe is preferable than hopping on a train or plane. Hire a car from us and journey in style to several European countries, such as France, Spain, Germany, Ireland, Belgium, Portugal and other EU nations.
We provide our unlimited mileage coverage to car rentals for extended journeys inside EU-listed countries. At the time of booking, let our agent be aware if you wish to travel outside the UK, as this service incurs an additional fee. For journeys beyond the EU, you can also inform our reservation team ahead of time.
One Way Vehicle Rental
Not all journeys loop back to their starting points. There could be times when you have to travel from point A to B, without the intention to go back to the original location just to drop off the borrowed car. SDVH’s one-way car rental service is ideal for such situations. Rent a car in one area of the UK and return it at your final stop.
This service makes travel simple and economical by eliminating extra rental periods. Instead of driving back to the first rental location, you can reduce expenses by returning it to a neighboring depot or letting our collection team to pick up it from your last location. Do note, our one-way car hire service is available exclusively on the UK mainland and incurs an extra fee. Make certain to specify your ending destination and pickup date while booking.
Insurance Is Included
Despite how prudent you are, it’s impossible to guard against all accidents and should they occur, they can lead to damage to the car or injuries to passengers. That’s why, each car rented from SDVH provides extensive insurance, protecting against both small damages to the car and all individuals travelling in it.
We add this fundamental insurance coverage in the car hire cost, meaning there aren’t any hidden charges. You can also opt for a Collision Damage Waiver for extra protection, reducing your excess liability for more serious damages to the car. When you make a booking, our representatives will inform you about the full cost of the car hire, including insurance options.
Company Own Insurance - 10%
We understand that not all customers seek rental car insurance coverage. If your company policy already gives insurance protection, there isn’t a need for us to give more protection. We don’t consider it’s fair to charge these customers the same rate as others without insurance! When you’re already insured, we present a 10% discount on every car hire.
This deal means you can experience budget-friendly car rentals from SDVH, along with our additional benefits. In order to receive this company discount, kindly inform our personnel while reserving a car.

What To Do In Godalming
Mornings in Godalming often start misty, with low clouds drifting lazily over the River Wey and dew gathering on the towpath’s brambles. Tucked in the rolling green between the North Downs and the western edge of the Surrey Hills, Godalming offers a slower, well-rooted kind of charm that its corners and ~22 thousand people among them provide. Just a smooth drive off the A3 and not far from Guildford, it feels surprisingly tucked away for somewhere so accessible. The air has a softness to it—damp in winter, scented with cut grass and wildflowers come spring. A waterproof jacket rarely goes unused and sturdy walking shoes won’t go amiss. For the most balanced mix of dry weather and village buzz, May through September tends to be the sweet spot, especially when the Staycation Festival rolls into the parks.
Attractions In Godalming
There’s a slow charm to how things unfold here—you won’t need an itinerary so much as a gentle sense of direction. The High Street is cobbled and crooked in places and you’ll find as much down quiet lanes as you will around the town centre.
Godalming Museum
Just off the High Street at number 109a, the Godalming Museum is compact but absorbing. Housed in a timber-framed building that feels as much an exhibit as what’s inside, it tells the town’s story through intimate details—portraits of local artists, old railway maps and craft displays. The place doesn’t rush you. Open from 10:00am to 4:00pm on weekdays, it’s ideal for a slow hour when the skies are grey. There’s a quiet upstairs reading room, too—worth the climb.
Godalming Wharf
Wander a little south from the centre and you’ll hit the Wharf, where canal boats bob gently and ducks loiter for crumbs. This stretch of the Wey Navigation has its own hush, even when families gather for boat rides in summer. It’s open all hours but the best time is late afternoon, when the water catches the sun and the air carries the warm scent of silt and grass. Tucked within reach of Hindhead, it’s a natural stop for those keen on riverside walks.
Phillips Memorial Cloister
Just across from the church, the Phillips Memorial Cloister feels like stepping into a secret garden. It was built in memory of Jack Phillips, the Titanic’s heroic wireless operator and a Godalming local. The red brick arches and climbing ivy give the space a reflective feel, especially early in the day before the playground nearby comes alive. The area stays open round the clock, though it’s best visited in daylight when you can really notice the carvings and symmetry.
Godalming Minster
Along Church Street, Godalming Minster rises modestly but with character—its square tower and quiet churchyard blend with the surrounding homes. Inside, it’s plain and peaceful, the kind of place where time slows. Services run on Sundays and on weekdays it opens from 9:00am to noon. There’s something grounding in simply sitting under its vaulted ceiling. Before heading back to Farnham, we took a moment here just to listen—the creak of wood, a distant bell.
Phillips Memorial Park Play Area
Just behind the cloister, the play area sits like an unofficial heart of the town. In summer, you’ll hear children laughing and see picnic rugs dotted across the grass. It’s not elaborate—swings, climbing frames, plenty of space to run—but that’s its strength. During events like Staycation, it turns into a lively hub. Even when quiet, it’s a good place to pause, especially if you’re travelling with little ones.
The Burys Field
Next to the Council offices, The Burys Field plays host to fetes, small festivals and spontaneous games of rounders. The grass stays thick and slightly uneven underfoot and there’s often a local dog or two bounding across it. When skies are clear, it makes a good stop to stretch the legs, especially after a wander from Badshot Lea.
Almshouse Meadow, Lammas Lands
East along Catteshall Road, you’ll find the Lammas Lands—a patchwork of meadows and wetland. Almshouse Meadow is one part of this, prone to flooding in winter but lush and humming with insects in summer. Cattle graze here sometimes and the walking paths can be uneven. It’s not polished but that’s its appeal. Nature, uncurated.
Canon Bowrings Recreation Ground
Tucked along Wolseley Road, this recreation ground is a bit of a local secret. You’ll see footballers practising drills, toddlers chasing bubbles and older kids on bikes. It’s the sort of place where people nod as they pass each other. We met a couple here from Cranleigh who were just passing through and decided to linger. Hard to blame them.
Broadwater Park
Further north, in Farncombe, Broadwater Park offers more space and more variety. There’s a lake, dense trees and open fields where dogs race after balls. In warmer months, the Xplorer trails give families something structured to follow, though you could just as easily let the paths take you. Open early—from 7:30am most days—it’s a popular stop for those coming from Ash, particularly on weekends.
Catteshall Lock
You won’t find signs pointing you here but Catteshall Lock is worth the wander. Follow the towpath east until you find it—the water trickling through, narrowboats idling and reeds leaning gently in the current. It’s quiet but full of movement. Before heading on toward Albury, we lingered a while, watching the clouds shift in the water.
The Pepperpot
Back in town, The Pepperpot marks the heart of Godalming’s High Street. Once a market hall, its small dome and open arches are easy to miss if you’re rushing but stand still and you’ll hear the footsteps of schoolkids echo beneath it and the rumble of buses nearby. A familiar name to day-trippers from Frimley, it’s a good place to pause, especially with a takeaway coffee in hand.
A Quiet Place To Pause
Godalming doesn’t rush you. After a day spent walking, you’ll likely find yourself back on the High Street, where bakeries lean into twilight hours and antique shops ease into closing. There’s no shortage of cosy spots to warm up—places with soft lighting, scratchy tablecloths and shelves of second-hand books. If you’re staying overnight, there are local guesthouses that feel more like borrowed homes. It’s the sort of town that gives more the longer you stay still.
