Master Park

Right in the heart of Oxted, Master Park is a firm favourite with locals. Situated off Church Lane, it’s a reliable green lung with a children’s playground that fills up quickly on warm days. Open 24/7, we came across dog walkers, parents and picnickers all sharing the space. The annual summer fair gives it a lively feel when the marquees go up and music carries across the fields.

Limpsfield Common (National Trust)

Wander further out on Moorhouse Road and you’ll hit Limpsfield Common—a generous swathe of woodland maintained by the National Trust. There are no gates or fences here, just twisting paths and the occasional sighting of a den hidden among the trees. Perfect for long dog walks or impromptu family rambles.

Titsey Place

Only open on select afternoons (Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm), Titsey Place on Water Lane is one for planners. The grounds are immaculate and the walled garden is worth lingering in. House tours are available seasonally, giving insight into the Evelyn family who shaped much of the surrounding estate.

Johnsdale Green Space

Set along Johnsdale, this compact park offers a tucked-away spot for a short breather. There’s not much signage and we nearly missed the turnoff—it’s easy to walk past. Still, it’s a peaceful patch and the benches are well placed for sun in the early afternoon.

Hurst Green

Those visiting from Godstone will find Hurst Green makes for a quiet first stop. We happened upon it during the annual village fête—bunting overhead, live music playing and kids queuing for face painting. Even without an event, it’s a neat, flat park that serves the local community well.

Crystal Lake

Hidden inside Limpsfield Common’s bounds, Crystal Lake is more of a pond than a proper lake—but it has its own charm. Reflections off the water, especially in early morning, are atmospheric. There’s no formal path, so decent shoes are a must.

National Trust Peter Rabbit Trail

Ideal for younger families, this woodland-themed trail off Ridlands Lane introduces a bit of magic into the walk. Woodland creatures are tucked into the scenery and our group of under-7s were thoroughly engaged spotting the next surprise.

Titsey Viewpoint

Just off Pitchfont Lane, the Titsey Viewpoint rewards even a modest effort with one of the best panoramic scenes in east Surrey. The bench near the crest is perfectly placed—ideal for watching the horizon tint orange during late summer sunsets. A popular option with those based in Lingfield.

The Music Room, Oxted

Set within the Old Barn on Red Lane, The Music Room is part performance space, part rehearsal venue. We caught a string quartet here one evening—the acoustics were excellent and the converted barn felt intimate without being cramped. Open late most days (until 11:00 pm), it’s worth checking listings in advance.

Chartwell

While technically just beyond Oxted’s border, Chartwell—once Winston Churchill’s home—is only a short drive. Open daily from 10:00 am, the house and gardens offer historical weight and strong views over the Weald. It’s also a common extension for walkers coming in from Reigate or Westerham.

Broadham Green

Broadham Green Road leads to this open space, which is part of the larger Greensand Way. You’ll often spot cricket matches or dogs bounding across the field. There’s no signage or facilities but the open air and birdsong more than make up for it.

Botley Hill Farm

Located along The Ridge in nearby Caterham, Botley Hill Farm is more than just a scenic viewpoint. The converted barn restaurant serves hearty food and the views westward over rolling hills are some of the best in Surrey.

Historic Fingerpost

On Westerham Road, this quirky piece of history is easy to miss but well worth a stop. An original cast-iron fingerpost sign from the early 20th century still points visitors in the direction of local hamlets. A small detail but it adds to Oxted’s understated charm.

Oxted On The Ground

Spending time in Oxted feels effortless. Independent cafés like Coffee at Kiwi House offer slow mornings with sourdough toast and proper espresso. For something more substantial, Cucina offers Italian with views over the station green, while The Old Bell remains a dependable local for pub classics. Those staying over will find budget-friendly options like the Premier Inn Oxted or family-run B&Bs scattered through Limpsfield. For drivers looping in from Smallfield or Coulsdon, Oxted is a satisfying stop that feels just removed enough from the rush.
