What To Do In Fulham

Just off the A4 and comfortably west of central London, Fulham is the kind of place that lends itself well to a relaxed day out by car. It borders the Thames with leafy streets that meander past riverside pubs, local shops and pockets of quiet charm. With easy road access from areas like Putney and Hammersmith, it’s a well-connected part of West London that never feels hectic despite its no so low population count of 87,000.

The weather here is typically mild, though riverside breezes mean it’s worth bringing an extra layer, even in warmer months. Spring through early autumn is the best time to explore—perfect for lingering in gardens, riverside walks and relaxed outdoor dining. Fulham’s character comes through in small moments: the bustle of North End Road Market, the summer cinema at Fulham Palace and the slow rhythm of streets that invite you to wander rather than rush.

Attractions In Fulham

Exploring Fulham by car gives you the freedom to dip in and out of places at your own pace. From scenic viewpoints and peaceful gardens to tucked-away landmarks and local curiosities, the area’s attractions are spread just far enough apart to make driving a real advantage.

Golders Hill Park

Though technically part of Hampstead Heath, Golders Hill Park felt like a natural companion to our Fulham day—it’s a firm favourite with those based in Chelsea seeking broader green space. We found ourselves wandering between animal enclosures and immaculate flowerbeds before settling with lunch under the pergola. It’s the kind of park where you can spend hours without realising.

Tip: If you’re driving, the nearby street parking fills quickly on sunny weekends—arrive before 11am to avoid a walk.

The Hill Garden And Pergola

Approaching from Hammersmith, we entered a quieter world. The pergola rises out of the greenery like a half-forgotten monument—long columns, trailing vines and wide views from its upper level. Even with others around, there’s a peacefulness to the space.

Tip: Bring a flask and a book—this is a rare spot in London where time genuinely feels suspended.

Parliament Hill Viewpoint

We made the detour from Barnes and arrived mid-afternoon. The path up from the car park is a gentle climb but it’s worth every step. As we reached the top, the London skyline stretched out before us, uninterrupted and wide. We sat for nearly an hour, watching planes in the distance and runners cresting the slope.

Tip: There’s a small café below but it closes early—take water or snacks if you’re heading up later in the day.

Burgh House

Tucked into a Hampstead side street, Burgh House took us by surprise. We only meant to pop in for a quick look but the displays were unexpectedly engaging—local history mixed with temporary art and plenty of small, personal touches.

The garden café, however, was what really won us over. A fig tree shaded our table while we lingered over tea and warm scones.

Tip: It’s open Wednesday to Friday and Sundays and their seasonal soups are excellent for a light lunch.

The Hollow Tree

We almost missed this one—it’s discreet, unlabelled and blends into the greenery. But once you notice the twisting bark and hollow core, it becomes strangely magnetic. People stop to photograph it, climb it or just pause nearby.

It’s not a headline attraction but it lingers in memory.

Tip: For a quieter approach, park near Gospel Oak if coming from Shepherd’s Bush and take the scenic route through the Heath.

Golders Hill Park Zoo

Just steps from the main park, the zoo is small and easy to overlook—but inside, there’s a quiet charm. We watched wallabies bounce through grass and peacocks wander across footpaths as if they were hosting the place.

With no entrance fee or long queues, it’s ideal for spontaneous visits, especially with children in tow.

Tip: The nearby café has good coffee and picnic boxes—perfect if you’re staying for a while.

National Trust – Fenton House And Garden

While nearby in Brompton, we made a Sunday visit to this beautifully preserved 17th-century townhouse. The interiors feel lived-in, not roped off. Harpsichords line the rooms and you can picture music drifting through the halls. The garden, though, was the real highlight: a walled space with flowering borders and quiet benches, protected from the city around it.

Tip: It’s only open on Sundays from 11am to 4pm—pair it with a roast nearby to round off your visit.

Grave Of Marc Bolan

Set on a quiet curve in Barnes, the modest memorial to T. Rex frontman Marc Bolan carries a particular stillness. There’s no big signage or visitor centre—just a patch of greenery, a plaque and the occasional flower left behind. We stayed longer than expected, not because there’s a lot to see but because of the feeling it evokes.

Tip: If driving from Kensington, consider adding a walk through the nearby Heath Extension for a quiet moment of reflection.

Northway Gardens

We’d heard about this spot as a narrow green corridor but it was more charming than expected. A slow-moving stream cuts through the park and tennis courts sit quietly to one side. Locals walked dogs or chatted on benches while children explored the undergrowth. It felt lived-in, familiar and entirely unpretentious.

Tip: Bring a drink or snack with you—shops aren’t close and you might want to linger longer than planned.

Kenwood Viewpoint

Easily reachable from Battersea, this spot offers one of the best natural views over London. You reach it by a slightly uneven trail but once you’re there, the sweep of the skyline is unforgettable. We arrived mid-spring to find the surrounding azaleas in full bloom—a vibrant, unexpected bonus.

Tip: Late morning gives you great light for photos without the midday crowds.

Where Fulham Balances Leisure And Comfort

We wrapped up our day in Fulham with a riverside dinner at The Crabtree, a long-standing pub known for its leafy garden and views across the Thames. With a relaxed atmosphere and seasonal menu, it’s one of the better spots for unwinding as the light fades over the water.

For accommodation, Aragon House near Parsons Green offers an excellent blend of comfort and charm. Set in a Grade II listed building, its boutique rooms and garden terrace feel distinctly local—ideal if you’re after something more personal than a chain hotel. Many of the rooms come with views over leafy Eel Brook Common and parking options are available on request.

Fulham’s shopfronts favour the independent and characterful. We stepped into Nomad Books on Fulham Road, where shelves were packed with carefully chosen titles and staff offered thoughtful recommendations. Not far away, Little Sourdough Kitchen on Munster Road tempted us with its rustic loaves and handmade pastries—worth arriving early before the croissants disappear.
