We pulled in near Endymion Road and stepped straight into one of London’s great civic parks, full of runners, families and the odd remote worker tapping away on a bench. There’s plenty of space to park nearby if you arrive earlier in the day. Open daily from 1:30 pm to 6:00 pm, it’s a great place to stretch your legs between stops.

Museum Of Homelessness

Just off Seven Sisters Road, inside Manor House Lodge, this museum cuts through assumption. It shares lived stories, protest artefacts and creative works tied to housing justice. Open Friday to Sunday at varying times, it’s best visited mid-morning when traffic is lighter and street parking still available.

Parkland Walk

After a short drive from Stoke Newington, we joined the Parkland Walk, a former railway line now reclaimed by trees, vines and the occasional fox. The walk spans far beyond what you expect, with graffiti-covered arches and wild edges. If you’re driving, aim for Florence Road and park before the lunch rush. It’s especially atmospheric in late afternoon light.

West Reservoir Centre

It’s easy to overlook this water sports hub on Green Lanes unless you know it’s there. Tucked behind apartment blocks, the West Reservoir Centre offers paddleboarding, kayaking and open-water swimming. There’s a car park on site and changing facilities inside, making it a low-effort way to enjoy something active before heading on. Open daily from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm (8 am on weekends).

Edith Garrud & Florence Keen Statues

Two small steel figures, almost tucked into the pavement at Station Place, commemorate local women who shaped history in ways that still resonate. We nearly drove straight past them but it’s worth circling back. No fanfare, just quiet permanence.

Arsenal Museum

We drove in from Holloway to the Emirates Stadium and made time for the Arsenal Museum. The exhibits include iconic kits, footage and a walk through the club’s many reinventions. It’s open weekdays from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm. Avoid match days unless you want the full fanfare and no parking.

Furtherfield Gallery

Inside McKenzie Pavilion, right on the edge of the park, this gallery focuses on experimental and community-led digital art. It’s one of those places where you never quite know what to expect. We once walked in on a VR project about urban mushrooms. Weekend opening only, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm and a short walk from roadside parking.

Crouch End Clock Tower

We drove down from Crouch End and pulled over beside the Broadway. The Victorian tower rises above independent shops and cafés, a practical pause in your day. It’s a good photo stop and a handy landmark if you’re driving in loops.

Duck Pond

Small and unmarked from the road, this pond is easy to miss unless you know where to look. Once there, it’s a peaceful corner with ducks, benches and a neighbouring play area. Great for a breather if you’re in between stops. Open 24 hours.

Banksy Tree Mural

This one took a bit of searching. Hidden along Hornsey Road, the mural references Islington’s green waste service in classic Banksy style. Wry, quick and a bit blink-and-you’ll-miss-it. We parked nearby in a quiet residential street, keeping the engine warm in case of a ticket.

Islington Jubilee Clock Tower

Approaching from Highbury, we paused at this cast-iron landmark on Highbury Place. It’s often overlooked but charming, especially when sunlight hits the dial. There’s parking along the outer edge of the square if you arrive early.

McKenzie Gardens

This hidden patch, folded just off the main park, offers space to breathe without the footfall of the larger green. With tidy flowerbeds and a few people doing stretches under the trees, it’s a quiet finish or starting point. We swung in after a loop from Tufnell Park and found nearby parking without trouble.

Portrait Bench, Finsbury Park

Another subtle detail near Station Place, this bench engraved with the faces of historic figures invites you to pause. We passed it on our way out from Harringay and stayed longer than planned.

Where to Eat, Park and Stay

We parked up near Stroud Green Road and walked straight into Café Vintage for a solid coffee and pastry, then grabbed lunch at Piebury Corner, known for its football-themed pies and fast service. For overnight stays, drivers can choose from the quiet comfort of The Brownswood, which has limited guest parking or opt for budget options like Best Western Highbury, conveniently placed for quick exits onto the A503.
