We meant to walk a loop around the riding school but ended up following a sunlit path deeper into the woods, past ponds edged with foxgloves and half-forgotten follies crumbling into ivy.

Somewhere behind us, kites flapped lazily against the sky where families set up picnics and launched footballs into the breeze. The park stretches out from early morning at 8 am, pulling you along in no particular hurry.

Hadley Green wasn’t on our list. We simply saw a stretch of bright water and veered off course—a lucky mistake. We ducked into a mock-up Victorian kitchen before heading upstairs to sift through dusty photo albums. After a slow morning around Finchley, it felt exactly right: local, unhurried, human.
