Unlimited Rental Mileage
At SDVH, we realise how a mileage cap can limit your journey. Therefore we offer unlimited mileage on most our cars, allowing you the opportunity to roam without limits. Take note, this feature doesn’t apply to cars hired for courier services.
No matter if you’re considering a short trip in Cockfosters or heading out on an elongated journey, you can rest easy knowing you’re covered, no matter the number of miles you clock. We advise verifying the unlimited mileage benefit with our customer service staff while selecting your car.

Our extensive selection of cars accommodates lone adventurers, families and businesses all the same. With convenient delivery and collection all over mainland UK, never worry about being without reliable transportation. European Cover Option
At times, touring by car across Europe is better than air travel or train travel. Rent a car through SDVH and explore with ease to France, Spain, Germany, Ireland, Belgium, Portugal and various EU countries. Our unlimited mileage allowance extends to extended EU trips.
When reserving, inform our agent about plans to travel beyond the UK, as this involves an added charge. For journeys past the EU, also tell our reservation team prior.
One Way Vehicle Rental
Travels don’t always end at where they began. Sometimes you could need to travel from A to B without wanting to return to hand back the hired vehicle. With SDVH’s one-way car hire, this becomes feasible. Secure a car in a specific UK area and hand it back at your endpoint.
This arrangement simplifies travel by eliminating extra rental durations. Rather than taking the car back to the starting rental location, save costs by dropping it off to a neighbouring depot or letting our staff pick it up from your destination. Note that this one-way rental is only available on UK mainland and includes an added fee. Ensure to mention your final location and collection date when booking.
Insurance Is Included
Regardless of the utmost precautions, unfortunate incidents may still occur. These mishaps can lead to harm to the car or injuries to the passengers, making it essential to be prepared for such scenarios. That’s why any car rented from SDVH comes with comprehensive insurance that covers both minor damages to the car and all passengers.
This basic insurance is included in the car hire cost, so you don’t worry about hidden fees. Furthermore, a Collision Damage Waiver is available to offer added protection, minimising your liability for major car damages. Our team will clearly inform you of the full car hire price, covering insurance options, during reservation.
Company Own Insurance - 10%
We realise that not every client requires additional car hire coverage. If you’re previously covered under your company’s policy, it’s redundant for us to provide further protection and we feel it’s unfair to charge all customers the same. If you have existing insurance, we provide a 10% discount on all car rentals.
This makes SDVH’s car rentals cheaper while still giving unlimited mileage. Do tell our agents about your business insurance when scheduling a car hire to avail of this discount.
Wide Range Available
Our extensive vehicle fleet includes people carriers and minibuses for larger groups, versatile trucks for a range of tasks, and both cargo and passenger vans available in Cockfosters. Through our strong supplier network throughout the UK, we can deliver top-quality rental deals. Planning a thrifty getaway? Our economy models fit perfectly! What To Do In Cockfosters
Sitting just where the capital eases into the fields of Hertfordshire, Cockfosters feels distinct—neither quite urban nor fully countryside. This suburb has 14,000 rasidents. Accessible via the A111 and easily linked by the M25 skimming past, it’s a straightforward drive, especially if you’re cutting across from Palmers Green or circling up from Edmonton.
Pack for changeable moods—this corner often holds onto the chill a little longer than central London in spring but sunny days open up endless parkland and outdoor cafés. Summer, with its long light and occasional pop-up events in nearby parks, is when Cockfosters comes alive quietly. For a taste of its history, stories of hidden fortresses and medieval parks linger in the wooded outskirts, just waiting for a casual wanderer to stumble across them.
Attractions In Cockfosters
There’s a satisfying balance here between vast green spaces, pockets of local history and relaxed places to let the day stretch out. It’s not a place for rigid plans—more somewhere you pick a starting point and let small discoveries lead you.
Go Ape Cockfosters London
It’s the faint whirr of zip lines overhead that first catches your attention—the sound threading through the trees long before you glimpse the platforms. We geared up among the smell of fresh bark and damp grass, laughter rising from the canopy above. Swinging across wobbly bridges and soaring between trunks, it felt like the ground belonged to a different world entirely.
The fact that there’s free parking and an ice cream kiosk nearby just makes it dangerously easy to stay longer than planned. Open from 10 am to 4 pm on weekdays, with a slightly earlier close on Sundays.
Oak Hill Wood, London Wildlife Trust
There’s a spot just off Parkside Gardens where the pavement crumbles and hedgerows take over—a quiet portal into Oak Hill Wood. Inside, the air thickens with the scent of soil and crushed leaves. We wandered along muddy paths, brushing past ferns and catching flashes of wrens darting into the undergrowth.
In late spring, the floor explodes into a patchwork of bluebells, a secret show for those who know where to look. Drivers coming in from Turnpike Lane often slip into the woods for a breather before heading back into the tangle of London.
Camlet Moat
We weren’t even sure we were heading the right way—the trail grew thinner and the trees pressed in closer—but somehow that seemed fitting for Camlet Moat. At last, we broke through to a clearing and there it was: a rough ring of still water circling a mound thick with roots and shadow. Silence, the kind that presses against your ears, settled heavily around us.
Locals swap ghost stories about this place—old tunnels, hidden chambers—but standing there, it was the hum of unseen birds and the ripple of unseen fish that felt more real. Easy to miss unless you’re already drifting through Trent Park from Wood Green.
Trent Park
You can try to plan a route through Trent Park but chances are you’ll end up somewhere you didn’t intend—and that’s half the point. We meant to walk a loop around the riding school but ended up following a sunlit path deeper into the woods, past ponds edged with foxgloves and half-forgotten follies crumbling into ivy.
Somewhere behind us, kites flapped lazily against the sky where families set up picnics and launched footballs into the breeze. The park stretches out from early morning at 8 am, pulling you along in no particular hurry.
Hadley Green
Hadley Green wasn’t on our list. We simply saw a stretch of bright water and veered off course—a lucky mistake. Wide ponds stretched out under heavy skies, rimmed by grasses where children tossed crumbs to ducks paddling in slow loops. A few benches stood worn and slanted under the weight of old oak trees.
It’s the kind of place you don’t mean to visit for long but end up sitting at until the shadows lengthen. We’d drifted in easily from Bounds Green and the whole stop felt unplanned in the best way.
Barnet Physic Well
Some places hide themselves even when they’re signposted and Barnet Physic Well is one of them.Tucked behind a grassy verge and shielded by low hedges, it barely announces itself—a brick-lined chamber whispering of a time when people queued to sip from healing springs. We peered inside, half-expecting the scent of minerals to rise up but the cool, clean air stayed still. Open on selected afternoons (roughly 2:30 to 4:30 pm), it’s not so much a place you ‘visit’ as one you almost stumble into.
Clowntown
We heard it before we saw it—a rising tide of laughter and the unmistakable squeak of rubber soles scrambling across polished floors. Clowntown doesn’t bother with subtlety. It’s a sprawling, bright maze of ball pits, rope swings, padded climbing frames and squealing children letting loose.
Somewhere in a tucked-away corner, a small café holds parents hostage with decent coffee and sandwiches. Popular with families escaping the traffic jams around Hornsey, it’s open daily until just before 6 pm—a full-on, no-half-measures sort of place.
Oak Hill Park
Oak Hill Park wears its everydayness lightly. We parked near the crumbling football nets and set out without much of a plan, wandering past shrubby woodlands, an open cricket pitch and a surprisingly busy playground by the café. The scent of fresh-cut grass and frying bacon curled through the air. No opening or closing times needed here—it simply waits, all day, every day.
Barnet Museum
You could walk past Barnet Museum thinking it’s just another Georgian house—until you spot the cannon perched oddly out front. Inside, the place creaks with stories. Battle relics crowd cabinets, old maps sag slightly on crooked walls and in one corner, a volunteer gently corrected our assumptions about the Battle of Barnet with the patience of someone who’s done it a hundred times.
We ducked into a mock-up Victorian kitchen before heading upstairs to sift through dusty photo albums. After a slow morning around Finchley, it felt exactly right: local, unhurried, human.
Firs Farm Wetlands Park & Playing Fields
The first thing that hits you isn’t the view—it’s the smell. Earthy, cold and clean, like fresh-cut grass after a night’s rain. We crossed wooden boardwalks slick with dew, pausing where reeds bowed heavy over still water. Dragonflies skimmed past at ankle height. A heron watched us from a snagged branch, unbothered.
Somewhere in the background, the city’s hum faded into the simple slap of our footsteps on wood. Firs Farm, for all its design and careful conservation, doesn’t feel curated. It just feels natural. Approaching from Muswell Hill, it’s an easy, peaceful break from the pace.
Food, Stays And Slow Evenings
Spending time in Cockfosters means quiet evenings that lean towards the comfortable and familiar. Independent cafés like Coffee Jar on Cockfosters Road offer a relaxed space for a late breakfast, while spots like Skewd Kitchen bring a lively Turkish menu to dinner plans.
For overnight stays, the West Lodge Park Hotel, nestled in nearby Hadley Wood, blends easy access with the feel of a countryside escape—a fitting end to a day spent weaving between parks and hidden histories.
