What To Do In Belgravia

Elegant and self-assured, Belgravia unfolds just southwest of central London—nestled between Hyde Park Corner and Victoria, with easy access via major roads like Grosvenor Place and Chelsea Bridge Road. Visitors arriving by car will find its broad, tree-lined avenues relatively forgiving compared to the congestion of neighbouring districts.

Belgravia’s climate is in line with the rest of London: expect cool, often damp winters and mild, sometimes surprisingly sunny summers. A waterproof jacket and layers are smart choices year-round. For those drawn to outdoor exploration and slower-paced urban wandering, late spring to early autumn offers the best balance of dry days and daylight hours. Tucked within reach of Kensington and Chelsea, it’s a good option for those looking to shift gears from sightseeing to slow strolling.

Attractions In Belgravia

Belgravia is shaped by its elegance—rows of Regency terraces, discreet courtyards and diplomatic buildings lend the area a distinctive stillness..

Saatchi Gallery

We started at the edge of King’s Road, where the Saatchi Gallery offers a sharp contrast to Belgravia’s classicism. The space focuses on contemporary art but it’s the scale that surprised us—huge rooms with bold installations that feel like curated encounters. Open daily from 10am to 6pm, it also has one of the better gallery shops we’ve seen. It’s a common side trip for those already exploring Battersea.

Eccleston Yards

Just off busy Ebury Street, Eccleston Yards feels like a different pace altogether. There’s a creative hum here—not noisy but steady—with pop-up shops, wellness studios and restaurants dotted around a central courtyard. We passed through mid-morning and stayed for coffee. Most places stay open until midnight, so it’s good for late visits too. Many visitors from Vauxhall find this to be a good first stop when heading into Belgravia.

Victoria And Albert Museum

A short drive away, this massive museum is worth the detour for anyone interested in design, fashion and decorative arts. We found the garden courtyard to be a calming surprise in such a grand building. It’s open 10am to 5:45pm most days, with extended hours on Fridays. Parking is more available on nearby streets like Cromwell Road after peak hours. This spot is well known to regulars from Bayswater.

Belgrave Square

On paper, it’s just another London garden square. But walking through Belgrave Square was one of our favourite parts of the day. The symmetry of the buildings and the peaceful atmosphere made it feel removed from the rest of the city. It’s open 24 hours, though it’s at its best around lunchtime when office workers trickle in for a quiet walk. We planned a day trip from Brompton and made this our first walking stop.

Chelsea Physic Garden

We made time to explore this walled botanical garden near Royal Hospital Road. It’s historic—the oldest botanic garden in London, dating back to the 1600s—but still fresh in its layout. Entry runs until 4pm daily except Mondays. The paths are compact, so parking close by can be helpful if you’re driving in.

The King’s Gallery, Buckingham Palace

Though technically on the edge of Belgravia, The King’s Gallery offers a sharp step into royal heritage. We browsed a changing display of paintings and decorative art, tucked just beside Buckingham Palace. It’s open Thursday to Monday from 10am to 5:30pm and ideal for anyone who enjoys classical works in a quiet, well-lit space.

Apsley House

Across from Hyde Park Corner sits Apsley House—also known as Number 1 London. This was the Duke of Wellington’s residence and we spent longer here than expected, particularly admiring the art collection. It opens at 11am on weekends, closing at 5pm. Parking can be tricky, so it’s worth circling early or choosing a nearby car park.

Wellington Arch

A short walk from Apsley House, the arch feels almost hidden in plain sight. We climbed to the top and got views across to Green Park and beyond. The exhibition inside tells the story of this former entrance to Buckingham Palace. Open 10am to 4pm daily, it doesn’t take long to explore—we were in and out in under an hour. Easily reachable from London, it’s a good way to round out your afternoon.

National Army Museum

We’d recommend the National Army Museum to anyone interested in history beyond the basics. The layout makes it easy to follow and there’s an especially good section on post-war conflicts. It’s free and the café does a decent flat white. Opening hours are 10am to 5:30pm, Tuesday to Sunday.

Queen Victoria Memorial

This is one of those London landmarks that you’ve probably seen in films but standing by it is different. The detailing is striking, especially early in the day when the crowds haven’t built up yet. It’s open 24 hours and worth stopping by on your way in or out of St James’s Park.

Little Ben Clock

Tucked by Wilton Road, this miniature version of Big Ben isn’t a headline attraction but it did make us stop and smile. There’s something charming about its scale and it makes for a quirky photo spot. Open all day and night, it’s easy to miss if you’re not looking for it.

Bywater Street

We didn’t plan to walk down Bywater Street—we turned in on a whim. But it ended up being one of the most photogenic corners of our visit. Rows of painted houses, each slightly different, make this a favourite for photographers and walkers alike.

Queen Elizabeth Gate

Near Hyde Park’s southeastern edge, the Queen Elizabeth Gate blends modern design with subtle floral motifs. It’s not large but the detailing stood out. We wandered through after dinner and the light made everything feel sharper. The gate is open from 5am to 10pm daily—often recommended by folks based in Kennington looking to end their evening with a quieter view.

Finding Your Way Around Belgravia

Stop in at Tomtom Coffee House on Ebury Street for a strong espresso or something heartier like shakshuka or pancakes—it’s open daily and has a loyal local following. For dinner, Oliveto on Elizabeth Street serves Sardinian-style pizzas and pasta in a low-key setting that suits the area’s understated feel. If you’re staying overnight, The Lime Tree Hotel, also on Ebury Street, offers boutique accommodation with character, plus a cosy café called The Buttery that’s ideal for breakfast before heading out.
