This riverside green space offers more than the usual lawns and benches. We followed wide avenues, paused near the Peace Pagoda and watched rowers slip by on the lake.

The size of the park means it never feels crowded and every turn offers something different—sculpture, woodland or a well-placed coffee kiosk. Golden hour around the bandstand is a favourite, especially in early autumn.

It’s often recommended by folks based in Putney who want an easy, spacious outing.

Lift 109

High up one of Battersea Power Station’s towers, Lift 109 gives a quiet thrill—not in speed but in the moment the skyline opens up. We rose through the structure in a futuristic capsule and suddenly found ourselves above it all.

London spread out in every direction and landmarks familiar to anyone from Vauxhall felt surprisingly distant from up here.

Open daily from 10 am to 8 pm, though closing times vary slightly midweek.

Battersea Power Station

The station itself has become a destination. It’s not just about shopping or eating—although there’s plenty of both—it’s the sense of space. Once industrial, now lively but still echoing with history.

We wandered under steel beams, browsed independent shops and stopped for pastries by the water. While exploring the area, we overheard a few locals from Fulham planning to spend their whole afternoon here.

Go Ape Battersea

We didn’t expect a high ropes course in the heart of a London park but Go Ape adds a playful edge. Suspended walkways, ziplines and treetop views—all a short walk from the Thames.

It’s especially good for families and groups and there’s a café nearby for anyone just spectating. Generally open 10 am to 4 pm, with shorter hours midweek.

A group from Clapham told us it’s their go-to when they want something a bit different without leaving the city.

Battersea Park Children’s Zoo

A quiet corner of the park hides a small zoo designed for younger children. It’s manageable in size, yet still varied—we saw lemurs, otters and a rather chatty parrot.

The layout makes it easy to wander at a child’s pace and the staff were warm and helpful throughout.

The London Peace Pagoda

This is a place we didn’t rush. Rising modestly above the riverside, the Peace Pagoda has a stillness that’s rare in the city.

Built in 1985, it’s become a landmark for reflection—we stood quietly, not really speaking, just watching the water move.

Easily reachable from Kennington, it’s often paired with a slow walk along the river or a nearby café stop. It’s open 24 hours but mornings feel especially serene.

Chelsea Bridge

You don’t come to Battersea just to cross Chelsea Bridge—but once you do, you’ll remember it. The view is wide, the traffic steady but not intrusive and there’s something satisfying about walking from green space into city edge.

Earlier that day, we’d driven over from Brixton and this ended up being the quiet moment we didn’t know we needed.

The Coaling Jetty

Tucked beside the power station, this repurposed riverside platform feels like a local secret. Seating, views, the hum of the Thames—we found it ideal for a mid-afternoon break.

Food stalls sometimes pop up and there’s often a dog or two watching the river. It’s open all day and best enjoyed without an agenda.

Old English Garden

The Old English Garden doesn’t announce itself. One moment you’re in the park; the next, you’ve stepped into a walled sanctuary filled with bees, butterflies and climbing roses.

We ate lunch here on a bench, surrounded by lavender and birdsong. It opens from 8 am and tends to close around sunset.

Pump House Gallery

Compact, calm and nestled near the lake, the Pump House Gallery is easy to miss but rewarding when found.

The exhibitions are small-scale but thoughtfully curated—we saw a mixed-media show that held our attention longer than expected.

The space itself, a restored Victorian pump house, adds to the mood. It’s open weekdays 9 am to 5:30 pm, closed on weekends.

Spending time in Battersea means shifting into a slower rhythm.

You’ll find a strong mix of independent cafés—Pear Tree Café near the lake and Story Coffee by the power station are both worth the detour.
