This is why each car hired from SDVH includes comprehensive insurance that covers both minor damages to the car and all passengers.
Such basic insurance is a component of the car hire fee, so there’s no need to worry about hidden fees. Our staff will surely give you of the full car hire fee, including insurance options, while making your reservation.
Company Own Insurance - 10%
We know that additional rental car insurance isn’t required by everyone. If you’re protected by your corporate policy, we see no point to give more protection and we don’t feel it’s fair to charge you equally as those without insurance. What To Do In Barkingside
Cool air hangs low in the mornings around Barkingside, especially as autumn begins to deepen. Tucked into the northeastern stretch of Greater London, it’s a house of 12,000 people and it has that mix of town energy and green edge—suburban but with open skies. It’s a smooth drive in from both the North Circular and the A12, with enough space to make parking rarely stressful. The weather here tends to shift gently—not too dramatic—though a light jacket or something waterproof won’t go amiss most months. If you like the quieter side of summer, that’s the time to come: when the parks are dry underfoot and the days still stretch a little past tea.
Attractions In Barkingside
There’s a slow charm to how things unfold here. It’s not the sort of place that calls out its highlights—more the kind where an afternoon disappears without effort. Paths curve through trees, shops nestle between quiet terraces and open spaces double as both shortcuts and destinations.
Fairlop Waters Country Park
Just past Forest Road, this park opens up like a sigh of relief. On some days it’s busy with dog walkers and joggers tracing loops around the lake, while on others it feels half-forgotten, quiet enough to hear your footsteps on the gravel.
There’s always something tucked into a corner—bouldering walls, picnic tables and rowing boats all making space for their own rhythm. And because it closes at 10:30 pm, it offers one of those rare spots where the day doesn’t have to end early.
It’s a regular stop for those passing through from Walthamstow looking for a breather between journeys.
Claybury Park
Tucked behind a few residential roads, Claybury Park doesn’t give away much until you’re already inside. The trails split quickly—one path to an outdoor gym, another curling through woodland.
When the sun comes through the trees in the late afternoon, it feels more like countryside than zone 4. We’d just come from Barking and this is where everything slowed right down.
Queen Elizabeth II Field
You’ll likely hear it before you see it—the soft thud of a cricket bat or the crackle of dry leaves under running shoes. This park at Mossford Green blends sport with stillness.
It’s got enough open ground to hold a few things at once: games, strolls, sunset watchers on the benches. A local favourite that doesn’t need signs or marketing to stay busy.
Valentines Park
Closer to Ilford but always on the Barkingside list. We came through the Cranbrook Road side and ended up staying far longer than planned.
Between the ornamental lake, flowerbeds and those nostalgic pedal boats, there’s a sense of old-London leisure here. The café near the centre does a brisk trade but if you can snag a seat, their hot chocolate’s worth the wait.
Open from 8 am to 8 pm—perfect for slow starts and unhurried evenings.
The Staircase
We didn’t go looking for this—it found us on a walk near Tomswood Hill. A free-standing concrete staircase, architectural and strange, it looks like part of a forgotten project or an art piece placed by accident.
You stop, you wonder, then carry on—but it sticks with you. Not a big stop but memorable.
Cross Road Duck Pond
Near Manor Road, this little pond draws in a surprising amount of life. A couple of benches, a few ducks, sometimes kids throwing in breadcrumbs.
There’s no plaque or feature trying to sell it—it’s just always been there and that’s enough. A familiar name to day-trippers from Wanstead, especially those with children and a pocketful of birdseed.
Fairlop Winter Village
It pops up seasonally near the Fairlop Waters car park—compact but cheerful. Fairy lights strung between stalls, a small ice rink where teens skate and tumble and parents watch with coffee in hand.
There’s a toy shop, snacks and a tiny train that circles the area. You could miss it if you weren’t local but once inside it feels like something the whole neighbourhood quietly loves.
A popular December draw for families coming in from Stratford.
Seven Kings Park
One of the more active spaces nearby, with its own energy. The running track sees early footfall, while the play areas keep going until the light fades.
Basketball games start up late afternoon and even the outdoor gym gets use. We stopped off on Epsom Road after leaving Romford, planning to stretch our legs and ending up staying till dusk.
Fairlop Waters Boulder Park
Not far from the main country park, this climbing zone feels like something special. Routes wind over bright boulders—enough variety for both seasoned climbers and those just testing their grip.
We didn’t climb much, just lingered with drinks and watched others navigate the shapes. We’d started our morning in Leytonstone and this turned out to be the highlight.
Westwood Recreation Ground
A stream cuts through this smaller park on Meads Lane, enough to give it a kind of pause. Elderly neighbours rest on benches. Kids wobble by on scooters.
If you’ve just come back from a long drive out of Chingford, this is where you might stop and stretch before heading in.
Wanstead Park
This one’s broad—not just in space but in feel. Lakes with still water, fields brushed gold in summer and dense paths where phones seem to lose signal.
It’s an escape wrapped in the city’s edge. We weren’t in any hurry and the whole afternoon went quietly.
Before heading back to Manor Park, we walked the lake’s far side just to hear the birds again.
Somewhere To Sit Down
Barkingside’s rhythm suits a slower pace, with cafés like Marino’s on the High Street serving comfort food in a laid-back setting and Café 104 offering a quieter spot off Tanners Lane. For overnight stays, Holiday Inn Express Newbury Park and Travelodge Chigwell are both close enough for convenience, especially if you’re driving in from nearby districts or planning to continue exploring East London.
