One Way Vehicle Rental

Journeys don’t always end where they started. Sometimes you might wish to drive from A to B without planning to return to the original point to return the hired car. Through SDVH’s one-way car hire, this becomes possible. Hire a car in a certain UK location and hand it back at your endpoint.

Such an option enhances your travel by cutting out extra rental durations. As opposed to navigating the car back to the starting rental location, save costs by returning it to a local depot or letting our staff collect it from your final destination. Note that this one-way rental is available exclusively on UK mainland and includes an additional charge. Be sure to mention your destination and collection date when booking.

Insurance Is Included

Accidents can happen without warning, no matter how careful we are, causing damage to the vehicle or injuries to the occupants. That’s why every car hired from SDVH provides comprehensive insurance, covering minor damages to the car and all individuals travelling in it.

This primary insurance coverage is incorporated in the car hire cost, thus there are no hidden fees. For extra protection, we have available a Collision Damage Waiver, which reduces your liability for significant damages to the car. Our team will brief you on the entire car hire cost, including insurance options, when you schedule a reservation.

Company Own Insurance - 10%

We understand that not everyone requires additional car hire coverage. If you’re already covered under your company’s policy, there’s no need for us to offer further protection and we think it’s not right to charge everyone the same. If you have current insurance, we offer a 10% discount on all car rentals.

This makes our car rentals more economical while still providing unlimited mileage. Do inform our staff about your business insurance while reserving a car hire to get this discount.

What To Do In Hackney

Just northeast of central London, Hackney, a town where 260,000 people reside, edges into the East End with a mix of old terraces, new builds and green spaces stitched between them. The weather’s rarely predictable—dry mornings often turn to drizzle by afternoon—so keeping a jacket and umbrella in the boot tends to be wise. Spring and autumn suit it best: mild enough to wander, lively enough to catch the area at its most active. It’s also an easy detour if you’re passing through Islington or nearby neighbourhoods with similar energy. It’s an easy drive in via the A10 or through quieter back routes off Mare Street, especially in the earlier hours.

Attractions In Hackney

With a car, Hackney opens up in small, useful ways—pulling over near a park, weaving past market stalls, slowing for murals that catch the eye. The stops aren’t far apart but each one feels distinct.

Hackney City Farm

Tucked along Goldsmiths Row, Hackney City Farm quickly draws you in with the sounds and smells of a working urban farm. Chickens dart between flowerbeds, goats poke their heads through wooden fencing and a large pig dozes in the shade.

It’s open from 10am to 4:30pm and makes for a surprisingly peaceful stop just minutes from the main road. From Bethnal Green, it’s a quick detour—and one worth the turn. The farm café adds to the relaxed feel with simple food and a few shaded tables out front.

Hackney Museum

Not flashy but deeply local. Housed inside the library on Reading Lane, Hackney Museum offers a thoughtful glimpse into the borough’s shifting identity. Through old photographs, interviews and donated keepsakes, it tells the stories of immigration, resistance and reinvention. We ended up staying longer than expected, drawn in by small but powerful exhibits like a recreated Caribbean front room. Extended hours on Thursdays make it easy to visit after work or a day out.

The Viktor Wynd Museum Of Curiosities

Hidden off Mare Street, The Viktor Wynd Museum leads down into a dim basement filled with curiosities: preserved animals, occult art, antique erotica and objects that defy easy explanation.

It’s open afternoons through late evening most days and you won’t need long—but you’ll think about it for days. If you’re after something strange while in Finsbury Park, it’s a one-of-a-kind sidestep. It’s not exactly family-friendly but it does make a lasting impression.

London Fields Lido

We didn’t plan to swim but the steam rising from the 50m pool pulled us in. Heated year-round, London Fields Lido is open from 6:30am to 9pm daily and draws everyone from triathletes to locals easing into their morning. The poolside café serves a solid flat white and nearby street parking makes access straightforward—especially if you’re coming from Bow or Hackney Central. Not a hidden gem but one that never loses its charm.

St. John At Hackney Churchyard Gardens

Set just off Lower Clapton Road, the churchyard gardens form a quiet patch of green framed by leaning tombstones and mature trees. A few benches, locals reading or eating lunch and the occasional scent of incense from the church give the space a slow, reflective atmosphere.

Nature’s Throne

Stone seats arranged in a wide circle along the Capital Ring trail give this spot a sense of quiet formality. Created by artist Paula Haughney, it carries the feel of a modern monument without explanation. We stayed longer than expected, drawn in by the stillness. Approaching from Highbury, it’s a gentle walking break with room to pause.

London Bridge Stone Alcoves

These architectural remnants from the 18th-century London Bridge now sit in Victoria Park, tucked between trees near the eastern side. They’re easily missed but quietly impressive, weathered and slightly surreal. People coming from Shoreditch often stumble on them during park runs or weekend walks.

Haggerston Park

Set behind Hackney Road, Haggerston Park offers open space without the bustle of London Fields. There are football pitches, a nature reserve and wide paths for easy walking. We parked nearby and wandered through slowly, with no clear direction—which suited the mood perfectly.

Hackney Downs Park

Larger than it appears at first glance, Hackney Downs reveals itself in layers—first a playground, then tennis courts and eventually a long stretch of open green dotted with dogs and families.

Approaching from Whitechapel, it’s a good place to break up a journey. A café across the road serves warm pastries and the general atmosphere is relaxed and neighbourly.

Discover Children’s Story Centre

Bright walls, twisting tunnels and themed rooms full of slides and interactive stories—Discover in Stratford is designed entirely around a child’s sense of exploration. If you’re in Hackney with kids, it’s a natural short drive. We stopped here before heading back to Spitalfields and found it just as entertaining for adults as for the children.

Everyday Hackney: Food, Rest And Refills

Spending time in Hackney means getting comfortable with the in-between bits—ordering a second coffee, ducking into a corner bakery or pausing for another ten minutes in the park. There’s no shortage of places to eat, with Mare Street Market offering wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas and quiet corners to read or recharge. For coffee, Climpson & Sons near Broadway Market keeps things simple, strong and reliably good.

If you’re staying overnight, The Old Ship Inn has compact, comfortable rooms above a well-kept pub on Mare Street, while Kip Hotel near Hackney Central offers a more modern setting with soundproofed rooms and minimalist interiors.
